My Godly Acts of Love...

...for my children.

by Heidi Hohlbaugh

Let me start by saying this is how I truly want to live, all day, everyday.

Unfortunately this does not always happen. I'm praying that God will help me be intentional in my parenting by acting in the following ways. After each action I have a "go to" verse to keep me on track and then I list some specific ways I'm trying to show God's love to my children.

To act with my WORDS...

Anxiety in a man’s (child’s) heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Proverbs 12:25

Intentionally use words that are positive and that build up my children. Encourage them to be bold in their faith. Talk to them about their words and what pleases God.

To act with my TEACHINGS...

For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.
Proverbs 6:23

Intentionally teach my children to be wise and kind. Be patient with them.

To act with my LEADING...

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

Intentionally lead by example.  Have a gentle spirit. Try to remain calm and remember that I'm the adult and they are still maturing.  Treat them with respect.

To act with my LOVING...

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 3:3

Intentionally let my children know how much love them. Let each of them think that they are my favorite.

To act with my LISTENING...

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance. Intentionally listen to my children. Don’t be distracted when they want my attention. Ask questions, value their input.
Proverbs 1:5

Intentionally listen to my children.  Don't be distracted when they want my attention. Ask questions, value their input.

And most importantly, to PRAY FOR THEM!

... The prayer of a righteous person (mother) has great power as it is working.
James 5:16

Intentionally pray for them. Ask them how they'd like me to pray for them. Teach them to pray too.
