Rahab Safe House

In the Spring of 2014, Rahab Ministries approached WOW – Women for Oppressed Women to make them aware of a safe house we were working on for victims of human trafficking. Rahab Ministries is a non-profit Christian ministry of staff and volunteers devoted to rescuing and restoring these victims. The ministry had been given the opportunity to purchase a home and large tract of land in Northeast Ohio, but we needed the final funding to secure it. WOW took our need to the attention of some of its special friends, and they generously donated $50,000 toward the safe house! The purchase was completed in the Fall of 2014.

Since its inception in September 2014, the Safe House now has a total of four residents, one of whom just came to the house in mid-March. The ministry also has two pending applications. The women are doing great and are involved in many activities including cooking, crafts, video series Bible Studies and Celebrate Recovery.  They also attend church and group therapy regularly through which they are learning how to accept each other as family, something none of them has ever experienced in the past.

Meanwhile, construction crews continue to visit the property each weekend to complete three additional bedrooms and more bathrooms for expansion.

Rahab also is making plans for our next Safe House that will accommodate minor-aged victims of human trafficking. This residence will be located in Columbiana County. Rahab also continues to grow its relationship with the Summit County Juvenile Center as mentors for their Diversion Program as well as mentoring minors for Children's Services.

Currently, there are 20 acres of land adjacent to our existing Safe House. This is being looked at and prayed over for consideration of a third Safe House that will house female victims and their children. While those initiatives are grand enough, however, God is expanding Rahab’s territory even further. He is leading us to open one or more consignment/second hand stores in order to supplement the ministry’s budget and to employ and train our residents.

While the safe houses have been a major focus for Rahab over the last 18 months, the ministry’s foundational initiatives also continue. Rahab serviced a total of 728 women from October through December of 2014 through our Oriana House and Power Street Ministry endeavors.  The ministry hosts Soup and Shops – a gathering of ladies from Oriana and Power Street – each Monday and Wednesday. The gatherings include a free lunch for the women, a “shopping trip” through the ministry’s complimentary clothing closet, and a devotional time. The ministry also hosts various Bible studies and one-on-one discipleship groups.

Part of Rahab’s vision is to raise awareness that the prostituted women on our streets are slaves in bondage to the lies of our adversary. They are hurting, broken girls and women who are desperate for a safe way out.”

Because of the generosity of special friends of WOW, the awareness and outreach is rising. Join us in praying for God’s arms to reach even further through Rahab, and that more souls will be saved through this important ministry.
