Cambodia Outreach: Transforming a Country One Young Soul at a Time

“Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” – Psalm 127:1 ESV

Cambodia is a country that has suffered under the oppression of genocide, conflict and economic hardship for much of its existence. The country’s youngest citizens often bear the greatest burdens, but The Chapel has partnered with Asia’s Hope to help.

Through child sponsorship, Chapel members are supporting kids who have been rescued from Cambodian streets or villages. These young souls’ parents have either died, abandoned them, or simply are unable to care for them.  Support like Chapel members give allows Asia’s Hope to provide these orphans with a loving home where they live with about 25 other children and a Cambodian, Jesus-believing mom and dad.

These family homes are located on two campuses, one in Battambang and one in Phnom Penh.  The Phnom Penh campus, which is in the area of Prek Eng, contains six homes.  The Battambang campus has 10 homes, with three more coming soon.  The Chapel currently supports one home at each campus; but, thanks to donations like those given by the friends of WOW, The Chapel also is underwriting two of the soon-to-be constructed homes.

While the financial gifts are greatly appreciated, Chapel sponsors are providing even greater support. Each donor connects with his or her child by writing letters or exchanging small gifts through Chapel teams that visit them one to two times per year.  Sponsors are continually invited to join a Chapel team to meet their child, as well.  So, Chapel sponsors support the child as a part of the entire home while staying individually connected through letters or even getting to meet them.

Recently, The Chapel team that visited over New Year's Eve got to be a part of the groundbreaking for the new home, BB 11. This is the very home for which God used WOW and its friends to fund the construction.  All the children from the campus came out of the school to be a part of this groundbreaking ceremony as we sang to Jesus, our Provider.  We also read God's Word, and prayed that this new home would be used to point the soon-to-be-rescued children to Jesus.  The future BB 11 children will be brought into their new home about August 2017.

Would you continue to go before these children, not only as a provider with the construction funds as you have already given, but as an intercessor praying for these children who will be rescued?  Pray for soft, teachable hearts whose soil is ready to receive the seed of God's good news.  Pray for the equipping of the house parents, that God would guide them as they lovingly point the children to Jesus.  How exciting to see that God has used WOW to change the lives of these children with the hope that they will, in turn, transform Cambodia for Jesus!
