Their Voices Prevailed

“Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, but they kept shouting, ‘Crucify, crucify him!’ A third time he said to them, ‘Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.’ But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.” – Luke 23:20-24

Lord Jesus, for three years You loved and taught Your disciples. You performed miracles in their midst and taught the truth of the Scriptures in ways they had never considered. Just one week ago, they laid palm branches at Your feet and hailed you as King. Now, with a crescendo of equal strength, they cry out for your crucifixion. And their voices prevailed. Waving palm branches of worship were replaced with wielding whips of Betrayal… Denial… Beatings… Mockery… Condemnation.

And what was Your response?

This Easter weekend, which voice will prevail within you – wielding whips of betrayal or waves of worship for the One True God?
