It’s almost fall in Northeast Ohio, and what could be better to enjoy God’s beautiful creation than to take a family hike? The Pheasant Run Trail at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, OH is part of this year’s Fall Hiking Spree. WOW invites you to join us for a fun-filled Sunday afternoon that includes:
- A post-church hamburger and hot dog picnic,
- A 1.5 mile hike (rated easy), (Hiking Spree forms will be available for all!)
- A presentation on hammock tying and other hiking/camping tips,
- And a presentation of stories from The Chapel’s recent trips to the Yucatan Peninsula.
And how about a hammock siesta after blazing the hiking trail? WOW has you covered!
The Mayan women of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula carefully hand-weave hammocks in their huts and yards, selling them at market to provide for their families. Their profit is minimal, though, and they would benefit far more from additional earning sources. WOW has purchased some of the hammocks directly from the women, in order to resell them stateside and help develop a seed fund for a more sustainable and profitable microenterprise.
We will have Hand-up Hammocks on display for you to try out, and you can learn how to get one for yourself!
Cost of the picnic is $2.50 per person or $10 per family, and all proceeds will benefit Greater Akron’s own Broken Chains Ministry. So that we are certain to have enough food, please RSVP by Friday, September 8th to Linda Maynard at email@example.com.
